Political scholars have emphasized that Patronage Politics remains an integral concept in fleshing out the status of national politics as a whole. This study employs an explanatory grounded theory design, subjecting semi-structured interviews with purposively sampled residents of Barangay 149, Caloocan City to closely examine how the informants understood local patronage politics and its effect on voting behavior. The findings indicate that understanding of patronage politics in the local setting is closely related to how a voter behaves during elections through the frameworks of reciprocity, dyadic ties, and prevailing norms.
